1- Because I think Praktica VLC system can be a poor men macro system, with interchangeable view finders and Carl Zeiss Jena lenses, if your exposure times are correct with a spot meter you are ready to go for true and high quality macro photography. The only quality challenge to this system could only be a Medium Format system, but that would restrict your trips in the nature with bulkiness and weight, also 35 mm is big enough for shooting small objects, say like flower, butterfly and even insect sizes.
2- Prakticas are sturdy also beautiful and classic, you can put them in a glass box, watch them, and also take pictures with them everywhere without any fear of you are going to brake them easily even they are old. Also spare parts are abundant and cheap nowadays from the retired Prakticas.
3- Praktica Equipment is cheap, I mean it! Comparing, my dream Macro
Canon Equipment is about would cost at least about 5000 USD, with Canons new phenomenal
macro twin flash system.
If you will be macroing you must have interchengable finders and a lot of
lenses. First of all a medium format system is too heavy for casual macro system
so you have three SLR options left: Nikon, Canon and Praktica, Canon lenses are great
but Canon does not have macro equipment as rich as Nikon, considering Nikon macro system,
I don't like Nikon lenses especially the color tone and warmth of tones, so the
good old Prakticas are best and cheapest way to go for macro IMHO. Both for
learning and for serious macro photographers.
4-!!ZEISS!! for a few bucks. You can have and use those great CARL ZEISS JENA lenses with them without emptying your wallet.
5- We have a long time Praktica tradition in the Family, they were idols in the family, now they are back.
6- How about going Digital? My answer to this is a technology which resolution is not up to film system yet, even 22 MPixel Mamiya data backs, I've seen 200 ASA film and 22MP comparisons, Digital is long way to go catch up with the F?lms in resolution, (A perfect 200 ASA film resolution can only match with the 32 MP resolution in digital which not exists yet!), well they will in couple of years I am sure, but then I have to wait until they are affordable for me, so for me moving to Digital macro system will take at least 5-6 years from now on in my humble opinion.
